IPC 498A - Anti Dowry Law
There is a new law called IPC 498A or anti dowry law in works in India.
According to Sify
‘Once a case is registered under 498A, the police get into action and book the groom and his family and they are immediately taken into custody. And if the groom is an NRI, a 'Red Corner Notice' is issued against him and his passport impounded. It is a cognizable offence and a non-bailable offence, one has to get the bail from the court, if, booked under 498A’.
I just love this. This kind of heavy handedness is required in our country to curb dowry. I guess it's high time that men stop 'buying' women in the name of marriage. Such law could also have ripple effects and curb other bad practices like female infanticide in the long run. I just hope that it gets implemented.

Any step towards discouraging dowry helps.
A few incidents since I have come to the US have proven to me that people still get dowry! I used to think it is only prevalent in villages.
I'm lucky to be married to a man that did not demand anything from me or my family. In fact has always been so giving. I’m sure he would have discouraged if anyone brought it up at our wedding.
I think if the men of our generation clearly say ‘NO’ we can change things. The problem is there are still some guys that don’t mind if their parents demand. A few want their parents to demand.
a few quick questions:
1. if demanding/expecting dowry by a NRI is so wrong, with what screwed up logic and effed up right do unqualified and undeserving women in india demand/expect NRI alliance + jewellery + money + visa + tickets + college tuition + H4 = later H1B + GC and so on.
2. if asking for money after marriage is 498a, how many women demand and harass men for additional clothes, jewellery and property.
3. some stuff is actually transfered to her parents and her immediate family.
4. if NRI alliance is so required of you, why the eff did you live in India in the first place and who stopped you from coming over to the US.
5. If women are so independent then why take the "dependent visa" route?
6. You praise your husband for being so giving.....are u giving in return, if so do u hav any facts to support that in terms of money, visa, etc that you so willfully grabbed from your spouse.
7. Women want men to be slaves.....and they lie, cheat, feign innocence, brutally harass and then play victim to the hilt.
8. Every women says this" If I say something I dont have to answer you, but if you say something I will say something back cos u said it first"
9. Every woman believes that marriage is a one-way street where a guy marries a girl and a girl DOES NOT marry the boy.
10. BTW, do u have any contribution to your husband's and family's income or do you have any sort of ancestral and or property to be given to you by your parents....I sure do know how much you can grab when u get a chance to via your husband
So knock off the dowry is a bad thing mentality of you stupid liberated feminist women of today who still cant make it to IITs and IIMs, who still need us men to invent stuff for you to use to later harss us on them.
Go make something out of your life w/o god damn biased rules, tortorous laws and quotas given to you and learn to be human first.......
