The hype about American Idol

Somehow it seems that everybody is obsessed with American Idol. I don’t see the show much and I can’t understand why it’s creating such a sensation like it’s a crisis. It’s after all a cheesy television show with no values in it. It’s mostly filled with misfits and people just watch it for insults that the judges make.

Why does the entire popular newscast talk about it all the time? Why do they care if some guy Sanjaya, who is supposedly, not as talented as others keeps progressing in the show? I don’t mind if the news appears on the entertainment section of the newspaper. But it really bothers me when I see it as a headline. I am just waiting for this show to end and for all the hype and buzz to be over.

Well, the hype is that American idol is an idea where the "not so have-it-all unfortunate" people can actually participate and show the world that they do have the talent to sing and make it in today's world. Its huge to be a success. Everyone wants to succeed, so why not give the unfortunate a chance to succeed, right? That's why its a big show! Its more of like a window of opportunity for those who have the talent of singing.

This hype, combined with smart, honest, rude judge's comments kind of actually sums it all up! That's a reason why its a huge hit. Apart from that Sanjaya is just another participant who wants to ride the wave. He has great hair (if you see the show, you would know what I mean) and every week, its a different look. Heck, why not? Its more important to ride the wave than let the wave ride you.

He loves the publicity and I am sure he enjoys every bit of the limelight he gets from the show. True, that he doesn't have a GREAT voice but he does have the talent and the confidence to succeed. He is proving everyone wrong as the week progresses with his performance. And even if he doesn't end up being the next American idol (I am rooting for him), I am sure all this publicity will definitely get him to launch his own thing someday(whatever that would be).

don't hold your breath waiting for this show to end. it's likely to go on for more seasons.

even if Idol ends, it is just a matter of time before another cheesy show "captures" the nation's imagination.

unfortunately the only defense against bad taste is to walk away from it, in this case by using the remote..
