Mexican food makes me sleepy

I have always felt very sleepy after I have had Mexican food. Same is probably true with South Indian food. But I know that for south Indian food, it is because of the carbohydrate load.

So I decided to do some research on what in Mexican food makes us feel sleepy. To my surprise I found that both black and pinto beans have high level of tryptophan. This is the same substance found in Turkeys which supposedly causes sleepiness.

I guess it’s better to cut down on my bean burrito lunches.

One thing I observe is that anything that has high levels of protein has high levels of tryptophan in it.
