We are not that great!

Human beings, no doubt, have been a very dominant in planet earth. At least that’s what I have been thinking all along.

For the past few days I have been suffering from severe cold and sinus. That has made me realize that we still haven’t been successful against these damn viruses. These viruses are supposedly so smart and could mutate in such a way that prevention and cure is almost impossible.

I almost laughed when I watched the ending of ‘War of the Worlds’ by Steven Spielberg where aliens couldn’t sustain the earthly diseases. But now I guess Spielberg must have had bronchitis when he wrote that story.

Your kid looks up to you

I usually eat a lot of fruits daily. Yesterday my 2 year old stayed at home because he was sick. When I came back from work, he was so excited to see me back home. He immediately ran to the refrigerator and got me a plum and got himself a plum and started eating with me. I was so happy to see it.

Just goes to show how kids observe you each and every day. It’s a good lesson for me as a parent. Instead of just telling your child to eat healthy, you should lead by example. They automatically look up to you.

We take things for granted

We take so many things for granted.I was listening to NPR today during lunch and they were discussing about the water scarcity in Kenya and how tough it is to get decent supply of water to a household everyday.

I came back from lunch and a guy who just participated in Boston Marathon was talking about how good the Kenyan runner was who came first in the marathon. He was going on and on about how these guys are very athletic and was wondering what they eat to keep themselves fit.

The Kenyan runner must have gained his strength by walking many miles everyday to fulfill his daily needs. I am not sure whether he really had all the luxury, comfort and time to think about what he should eat to run good in a marathon.

How ironic?

Bunny bites!

Rabbits are no doubt cute to have around. Spring is finally here and all the rabbits are finally coming out of their burrows to have a bite of all the beautiful plants and shrubs that are blossoming right now.

I was very curious to see how the tulips would bloom in my front yard this spring. But those hungry bunnies spoiled my curiosity by biting away a lot of flower buds from my tulip plants. I sprayed some repellants yesterday to save the remaining. But it is a little too late.

I’ll have to wait one more year for the blooms. Damn Bunnies!

Virginia Tech Shooting Revelation

When the news first came out about the Virginia Tech. shooting incident, everyone was curious to see who the killer was.I was amazed to learn the response from a few after it was known that the killer was Korean. Here are a few responses I heard -

One Afro-American guy said that he was happy that it wasn’t black.

There was a loud remark from a Caucasian friend of mine – ‘Did you see it was a Korean?’

A Chinese friend of mine was angry that the media reported it as Asian and Asian mostly refers to Chinese.

We talk all about democracy and everyone being equal. But in heart we are still divided by Race. I have no doubts about it.
